Happy Birthday to a Patriot, Legend and Grandma of Nigeria
Chief (Mrs.) Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo (née Adelana) clocked 99 yrs on November 25, 2014. Chief HID Awolowo is the widow of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, a founding father of our nation. Happy birthday, great grandma!!
Mrs. Awolowo was born on November 25, 1915, barely a year after Britain merged its Southern Protectorate and the Northern Protectorate to form our beloved Nigeria. Chief Obafemi Awolowo (Awo The Great) once described his wife as a "jewel of inestimable value." He should know. I am not sure I am qualified to call her anything but, on behalf of her family, I salute her as a Nigerian patriot, a legend and a founding member of our beloved nation.
President Goodluck Jonathan joined the family of Grandma Awolowo and millions of Nigerians to wish her a very happy birthday celebration.
